Team falls short at State
Championships after solid rides

August 25 - State Championships

The iomega-Orbea team had the Idaho State Road Championships on its list of events to win this year.  The race was quite negative as many of the other squads waited for iomega-Orbea to be on the offensive and then rally to stomp out any moves.  This caused a large field to finish together on a selective course, something of a surprise to many.  The team stuck to its planned strategy only to fall short in the end.

How it unfolded...

The day was hot and it was to be a long day in the saddle.  After about an hour of racing iomega-Orbea's Gary Casella soloed off to a 30 second advantage as the peloton hit the base of the first climb.  Casella caught on the climb the race stayed pretty much together before two riders Tim Root (Team George's) and Dave Fleckenstein (Lactic Acid Cycling) went up the road.  iomega-Orbea Captain Tad Hamilton attacked close to a dozen times to get clear only to be chased back, before and after the two riders went clear.

In the end Mayfield and Weyen were the two riders to finish it off for iomega and with a few miles remaining Mayfield started to feel the effects of the heat after riding solid all day.  Weyen attacked to try to solo home and stretched out the field only to get caught and later finish in the field.

A solid performance buy iomega-Orbea in which everyone contributed, victory just wasn't in the cards today.
