November
'03- Tipo storms first cross race
Mild, dry weather helped lead to a fast start by Tad
Hamilton(Team Orbea) and Justin Mayfield(Team
Orbea) strung the field out on the first lap. Their
hard riding led to a ever increasing range of lap times from
then on. A few laps later, Justin Mayfield was not longer
able to answer Tad's relentless pace and was forced into a
lone chase of the leader. Meanwhile, the other riders where
all trying to keep a fast pace, hoping to slowly reel in riders
they where chasing. Several mechanicals resulted in two riders
DNFing, while the remaining riders continued to attempt bridging
to the next rider up ahead. Tad Hamilton managed to stay away
for the solo win, with the remaining riders coming in along,
trailing behind.
In the B group Brad Turpen came
through the first lap with a 30 second gap on a group of
four other riders working to limit their losses. Brad was
able to increase his lead to a maximum of approx 1 minute
while the group of four was whittled down to three riders
working together to bring Brad back. A costly barrier mistake
during the final 10 minutes gave the leader a scare as his
error cost him his lead as Matt Mundy (Gold's Gym) was able
to bridge up to him leading into the final two laps. They
stayed together through the start line of the bell lap,
until Brad put on the gas again and was able to pull away
and take the solo win. Meanwhile, Charles Stearns (Gold's
Gym) was able to stay away ahead of the other Masters riders
to take the Master's victory. The remaining riders came
through relatively unscathed. Thanks for your support and
we hope to see you guys out their in a couple of weeks.<story
