Esteban and Gonzalo return home

August 25 - Esteban and Gonzalo return home

After racing here since April, the Uruguayan riders Esteban Jukich and Gonzalo Tagliabue went back home this week to Uruguay, South America.  Their plans are to rest and recover from their long season and be ready to come back early next spring.

This was Jukich second season with iomega-Orbea and was consistent all season long with solid rides on all sorts of terrain.  His best place this season was 2nd in the opening stage at the Tour of Eagle in Idaho.  Esteban rode his heart out this summer in support of his other squad members who were better placed overall.  His contribution to the team went far greater than his individual performances.

Gonzalo Tagliabue's first season with iomega-Orbea was a good one even with a few setbacks.  Gonzalo was out for a month with tendonitis in his knee for a month in which he didn't ride in order to recover.

Gonzalo's personality and aggressive nature didn't let this set back hold him down.  His first race back he came out of the gate and scored and impressive win on stage 2 at the Lyle Pearson Classic.  He backed that win up by taking another win at the opening stage of the Gate City Grind and also took the field sprint on stage one at the Elkhorn Cycling classic in Oregon.  Second place in the Morning after Criterium finished off his season in the USA.

His attacking style was very welcome by team Manager/Director Gary Casella.  "Gonzalo is a rider that gives 110% and leaves his effort on the table.  Its his nature to be aggressive and that compliments our team very well.  He's been a great addition to the squad this year."

Esteban and Gonzalo were a solid force this year at iomega-Orbea.  We all wish them the best of luck and safe travels back home.
